Turkey – Zimbabwe Relations
Our Embassy in Harare has been active on April 30, 2011. Zimbabwe’s embassy in Tehran, which has not yet been represented in our country, is accredited to our country.
Due to the geographical distance from Zimbabwe, domestic political developments in the country and the associated economic difficulties, it is observed that our relations, which were limited until the opening of our Embassy in Harare in 2011, have recently gained momentum and interest in our country is increasing.
The second part of the meeting was held in Malabo on 19-21 November 2014. Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe and former President of Zimbabwe, former Foreign Minister Simbarash to Mumbengew participated. President Mugabe participated in the G20 Leaders’ Summit held in Belek, Antalya on 15-16 November 2015 in the capacity of the Chairman of the AfDB term, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and high-ranking government representatives.
In 2017, our trade volume was around $ 16,096 million (exports 5,354 million, imports $ 10,742 million). The main export items consist of tobacco, precious or semi-precious stones and mineral materials from tractors, mining machinery, mechanical devices, various manufactured goods, electrical machinery and devices, plastics and their products, unknitted clothing goods and accessories.
In Zimbabwe, 110 of our citizens reside with temporary workers. (Almost all of our compatriots reside in Harare.)
Our Government, Turkey covered by scholarships, Zimbabwe is higher education scholarships are allocated every year, 125 scholarships have been allocated until today, 65 of them graduated, while 60 continue their education.
One of our Zimbabwean diplomats participated in the “International Young Diplomats Training Program” held every year by our Ministry Diplomatic Academy in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Our country, through the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), is in development assistance to Zimbabwe in various fields, especially in health and education fields.
