Turkey – Vietnam Relations

The diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Turkey, was established in 1978. Turkey, in Hanoi, Vietnam also has resident embassies in Ankara. In addition, work on Turkey’s Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City are still serving opening.

Vietnamese economy and trade, including bilateral relations, especially with Turkey is making progress in every field. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim’s visit to Vietnam from 23 to 24 August 2017, was the first official visit to this country from Turkey at Prime Minister level. Foreign Minister Mr. Mevlüt Cavusoglu visited Vietnam on 17-19 March 2015 and after 17 years he made the first bilateral official visit to our country at Vietnam Foreign Minister level.

Within the framework towards the completion of the legal basis of cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey, with the Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement in 2014; The Air Transportation Agreement and the Maritime Agreement were signed in 2015. Negotiations on agreements and memoranda of understanding on cooperation’s in the fields of Customs, Agriculture and Veterinary are ongoing.

A total of seven Mixed Economic Commissions (KEK) meetings have been held between the two countries to date.

A sister city relationship has been established between Ankara and Hanoi cities in 2011 and Istanbul and Ho Chi Minh and Antalya and Nha Trang are continuing to establish a sister city relationship.

Turkey covered by scholarships, from 1992 until today, 53 Vietnamese citizens, the Government has benefited from the scholarship. Scholarships have been granted to 11 Vietnamese citizens for the 2016-2017 academic year.

THY’s flights to Istanbul-Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh, which is seven days a week, started on June 27, 2016.

A total of 166 Turkish citizens live in Vietnam. As of 2016, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey, there are 466 Vietnamese citizens residing variety of reasons.
