Turkey – Tunisia Political Relations
Turkey-Tunisia bilateral relations are carried out on the basis of our deep-rooted historical and cultural ties.
High-level visits are regularly held between the two countries, and almost every area has regular consultations and contacts.
Ottoman presence in Tunisia continued for over 300 years, it is the source of sympathy to the people of Turkey in this country. During the Crimean War of 1854-1856, 14,000 troops from Tunisia were included in the Ottoman ranks, and the survivors were frequently mentioned in Tunisian sources where they were placed in the Tunisian village of Kastamonu’s Ağlı district.
The Tunisian Government’s President Hammadi Jebali signed a Joint Political Declaration for the establishment of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (YDSK) during his visit to Turkey on December 24-25,
Mr. President, in his capacity as Prime Minister, during his visit to Tunisia on 5-6 and June 2013 Turkey-Tunisia High Level Strategic Council (YDSK) first meeting was held, it was signed 24 sister city protocol with the 21 agreements and action plans in various fields. It is foreseen that the following YDSK will be realized in our country this year.
Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş has represented our country on March 29, 2015 in order to condemn the terrorist attack on 18 March 2015 at the Bardo Museum in Tunis, the capital city of Turkey, under the leadership of President Beji Caid Essebsi.
