Turkey – Suriname Political Relations

Our diplomatic relations were established on May 17, 1976. The Friendship and Cooperation Agreement signed between Surinam and our country on 7 March 2013 entered into force on 13 September 2017.

Because of the geographical distance and the concentration of both countries on their own territories for many years, our relations have been rather limited. However, in recent years, we have become more and more interested in the region as a part of our Latin America and Caribbean expansion policy, opening new embassies in the region, launching TICA development and technical cooperation projects, establishing institutional relations with regional organizations and establishing Surinam comprising.

Our political relationships with Surinam are mostly based on international and regional organizations we have institutional relations with, such as the UN, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Latin American and Caribbean Communities (CELAC) and the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIT).
