Turkey – Political Relations with Qatar
Our relationships with Qatar, where deep friendship and fraternal ties are found, show a rapid development in every field and are watching at a perfect level. Intensive mutual visits at every level and in each area give our associations a great impetus. There is close cooperation and coordination between the two countries in regional issues.
The first meeting of the High Strategic Committee (YSK), which was decided to be established as a high level dialogue and cooperation mechanism between the two countries in 2014, was held in Doha on 2 December 2015 and the second meeting was held on 18 December 2016 in Trabzon with the President of Turkey and Qatar Emiri Sheikh Tamim in the Presidencies of Throughout these meetings, a number of agreements, protocols and memoranda of understanding have been signed to strengthen our cooperation in various fields.
We cooperate with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which is a part of our relations with Qatar, which is also a member of this country. In this framework, the High Level Strategic Dialogue mechanism existing between the JCC and our country provides a useful platform for our bilateral and regional co-operation with Qatar.
Trade volume between the two countries was $710 million in 2016, excluding oil and its derivatives. The value of the projects that our contracting firms have undertaken in Qatar so far exceeded 15 billion dollars. In our country, interest in Turkey of the important capital investment in Qatar is increasing day by day.
