In recent years, our relations with political, economic, defence industrial cooperation and cultural fields have gained momentum with the Philippines, one of the dynamic economies of the Asia-Pacific region, the Southeast Asian Nations Association (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member.
Diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Philippines was established by the Treaty of Friendship signed on June 13, 1949. Our Embassy in Manila opened on October 17, 1990, the Embassy of the Philippines in Ankara in October 1991.
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited the Philippines on 17-18 November 2014. This visit, organized on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, constituted our country’s first visit to the Philippines at the prime minister level.
Direct flights from Turkish Airlines to Manila since March 2015 continue to contribute to the interaction of the peoples of the two countries. TIKA’s Manila Office started operation in April 2015, with all the Philippines in charge.
Our country is actively contributing to the ending of armed conflicts between the separatist groups and Manila since the 1970s in the name of Mindanao in the south of the Philippines, and for the establishment of lasting peace in the island. Moro Philippine government Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in the conduct of peace negotiations through two channels Turkey, the International Contact Group (ICG) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Southern Philippines Peace Committee (OIC-PCSP) is contained within.
Turkey, in the context of contributing towards the peace process in Southern Philippines, the Independent Weapons Release Body’s (Independent Decommissioning Body, IDB) since its inception, the Presidency is conducting.
“Turkey Scholarships” within the scope of the Filipino students for 2017-2018 academic year, 15 scholarships have been assigned. Since 1992, a total of 72 Filipino students have benefited from our Government scholarships.
