Turkey – Political Relations with Pakistan
Turkey’s relations with Pakistan, Pakistan’s was founded as an independent state since August 14, 1947 was formed on the basis of close friendship and brotherly understanding. Of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Turkey is the 70th anniversary was celebrated with various cultural events in both countries throughout 2017, events will last until March 23, 2018 is the date that the National Day of Pakistan.
The support that the Muslims of the Underworld give to the Liberation War has a separate place in minds. Turkey’s struggle for independence and success in establishing a modern state, has been a source of inspiration for the people of Pakistan.
Following the establishment of Pakistan, friendship relations were developed with high level visits, ensuring that the two countries support each other in the toughest times, such as natural disasters, and that these close relations are also established at the people’s level. Relations between the two countries have been institutionalized with the mechanism, which was established as the High-Level Cooperation Council in 2009 and then upgraded to the level of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (YDSK). On the 23rd of February 2017, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif visited Turkey and the fifth meeting of the YDSK was held in Ankara.
The number of documents signed with Pakistan under the YDSK mechanism reached sixty (60). These agreements, which are signed in a wide range of facets, reflect the shared willingness to develop these relations in an effective and institutional way, as well as being an expression of our multifaceted relations.
Turkey and Pakistan have supported each other in international platforms.
Mutual high-level visits also provide important contributions to the development of relations between Turkey and Pakistan. On this framework, Mr. President of the Republic of Turkey visited Pakistan on 16-17 November 2016. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, visited our country on 22-24 February 2017 for the Fifth Meeting of YDSK. Mr. President also participated in the ECO Summit held in Islamabad on 28 February-1 March 2017.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Hakan Abbasi, who attended the Ninth Summit of the Eight Developing Countries (D-8) Organization in Istanbul, made a study visit to my country on October 20, 2017 and met with Prime Minister. Prime Minister Abbasi also attended the Extraordinary OIC Summit on Jerusalem on 13 December 2017 in Istanbul.
Mrs. Foreign Minister visited Pakistan on 1-2 August 2016 and was accepted by President Memnun Hussein and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
On September 12, 2017, Pakistani Foreign Minister Hoca Mohammad Asif met with our minister, who was accepted by the President of the Republic of Turkey and Prime Minister within the scope of his study visit to Turkey.
The first of the Turkey-Azerbaijan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in Baku on November 30, 2017.
