Turkey-Niger Relations

In 1966, diplomatic relations with Niger were established. Our long-term political and economic relations have accelerated in our policy to open up to Africa and our Niamey Embassy commenced operations on January 3, The Embassy of Niger in Ankara was opened in October 2012. In addition, we opened our Honorary Consulate in Agadez in northern Niger in 2014. Niger has Honorary Consulates in Istanbul, Bursa and Antalya. Our relations with Niger came to a new turn with a visit to Niger on 8-9 January 2013, when President was Prime Minister, and a visit to Niger by his President Mahamadou Issoufou on 10-13 March 2014. Finally, Niger Prime Minister’s visit to Turkey on 23-25 ​​Brik refined date of January 2018 was the first visit to the Prime Minister level our country from Niger. Between the two countries, a number of agreements have been signed since the day of opening of our Embassy in 2012.

In the context of parliamentary relations, there are Friendship Groups within the Parliament and Niger National Assembly.

By November 2017, our trade volume was $ 34.3 million (our exports were 33.5 million, our imports were $ 78 thousand).

The first Joint Economic Commission between Turkey and Niger (JEC) meeting was held in Ankara on 5-6 November 2014.

One of the most important aspects of our relations with Niger is our development aids. In cooperation with our TIKA Niamey Program Coordination Office, which officially became operational in 2014, many projects (school, technical high school, classroom, fistula treatment centre, surgical clinic, ambulance, orphanage, friendship park, fountain-toilets, water wells, bringing it to life, modern agriculture). Turkish NGOs are also active in Niger, opening water wells, providing free health care services, and distributing food to the public.

In addition, free treatment is offered every year in 50 Nigerian patients in our country.

Scholarships recognized by Turkey within the scope of Turkey, during the period 2017-2018 are given scholarships to 14 students from Niger. Since 1992, 172 scholarships have been awarded.
