The history of Turkey-Netherlands relationship dates back to the 17th century. In 1612, the first Dutch Embassy Cornelis Haga was appointed to Istanbul, and the same year Sultan Ahmed gave the Dutch “ahidname-i hümayun”. The establishment of diplomatic relations and the activities of the Dutch merchants in the Ottoman Empire have increased, and the Dutch Embassies, in cooperation with the British Embassies in general, have been mediators in the peace negotiations after the wars with Austria and Russia (for example 1699 Karloff and 1718 Passaufic Treaties).
The first permanent representative of the Ottoman Empire was Yahya Karaca Pasha, who was appointed as The Hague Ambassador in 1859. After the proclamation of the Republic and the Netherlands concluded the first agreement signed in 1924. “Between Muhadenet Royal Dutch treaty with the Republic of Turkey Upgrade” d (Friendship Agreement). By the year 2016, our trade volume with the Netherlands was 6 billion 590 million dollars (Exports: 3 billion 589 million dollars, Imports: 3 billion dollars), an increase of 8.5% compared to the previous year. In terms of the volume of bilateral trade volume of our country in the year 2016, the Netherlands ranked 13th, 17th in the ranking of the countries where we have the most imports and 10th in the export ranking.
By November 2017, our trading volume with the Netherlands increased by 15.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. In the same period, we saw an increase of 6.6% in our exports and 25.1% in our imports. Dutch-owned company in Turkey, banking, chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, medical industry, telecommunications, logistics, textile, food and act as almost every sector of agro-industrial and tourism sectors.
According to Central Bank data, the October period 2002-2017 the sum of foreign direct investment in the Netherlands from Turkey is 10 billion 641 million dollars, made to our country in terms of foreign direct investment overseas is located in the Netherlands in first place. According to the Federal Reserve Bank, in 2016, direct investments from the Netherlands to the Netherlands totaled 5 billion 60 million euros. The number of entrepreneurs in the Netherlands is around 25,000, employing about 67,000 people.

In the Netherlands where 1.8 million immigrants live, the population of the Turkish population is about 450,000. 300,000 of this population are dual citizens. According to the general election results held on March 15th, 8 Turkish deputies could enter the Representatives Assembly. Also in the State Assembly 8; In the Municipal Assemblies, there are 128 members of Turkish origin.
