Turkey – Malaysia Relations

Our diplomatic relations with Malaysia were established in 1964. There are wide-ranging and close relations between Turkey and Malaysia.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato ‘Sri Najib Razak signed a joint declaration on January 10, 2014, that the relations of the two countries should be moved to Strategic Partnership level. said Strategic Partnership, corresponding to 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, Turkey-Malaysia relationship is indicative of the favourable trend in bilateral and multilateral fora.

The two countries cooperate primarily with the UN, the Islamic Cooperation Organization and multilateral platforms, including the D-8. Our country participated in the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on 4-6 August 2015 as the special invitation of Malaysia’s President of ASEAN in 2015 at the level of Foreign Minister.

He was invited to Malaysia at the G20 Antalya Summit held on 15-16 November 2015 as ASEAN Chairman. At the summit margin President made a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato ‘Sri Najib Razak.

16 to 17 April 2014 the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato ‘Sri Najib Razak’s visit to our country signed during the Turkey-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement, entered into force on August 1, 2015. This Agreement is the first STA to enter into force between our country and a member state of ASEAN.

We have about 600 citizens permanently residing in Malaysia; There are about 300 Malaysian citizens in our country. Since 1992, 129 Malaysian students have benefited from the Government scholarships. “Turkey Scholarships” for the 2016-2017 academic year covered by the Malaysian students 26 scholarships have been assigned.
