Turkey – Political Relations with Jordan

The basis of the relations between our country and Jordan is the “Friendship Agreement” dated January 11, 1947. Our Amman Embassy has been operating since April 28, 1947. The legal infrastructure of our bilateral relations has been established with the Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding signed with Jordan up to now.

Our relationship with Jordan is aimed at developing common interests and mutual benefit of our people to contribute to regional peace, stability and refuge. Turkey and Jordan’s approach to regional issues are largely overlapping. There is a consensus on the two-state settlement of the Palestinian issue, the preservation of Jerusalem and the statues of the holy places there, and the defence of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. As two neighbouring countries of Syria, it is a vision shared by both countries that the blood flowing in this country should be stopped as soon as possible and a political solution to the crime in the direction of the demands and expectations of the Syrian people.

At the level of Head of State, our country visited Jordan last December 1-3, 2009, by President Abdullah Gül; Last visit to my country from Jordan King II. It was held by Abdullah on March 5-6, 2013.

At the Prime Minister level, our country was last visited to Jordan by Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 31 December 2008; Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour recently visited our country on 27-29 August 2014 to attend the Presidential Handover Ceremony.

The last visits at the level of foreign ministers were carried out by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu, the neighbouring countries to Syria Ministers III. The meeting was held on 4 May 2014 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Cavusoglu appointed Amman on 9 September 2014; Jordanian Foreign Minister Naser Judeh on 20 April 2013 was made to my country.

Cemil Cicek, President of the Turkish Parliament visited Jordan on 8-9 December.

Contractual military relations between Turkey and Jordan are the basis of the cooperation agreement signed in 1984 and 2003 Military Training Cooperation Framework Agreement. The military field relations between the two countries are developing in an institutionalized framework.

There is also concrete cooperation between our country and Jordan in the field of defence industry. The facility, established in Jordan for the production of electro-optical systems by Aselsan and Jordanian counterpart “King Abdullah Development and Design Bureau” (KADDB), has been operational since January 2014.

There are close contacts between Jordanian security forces with Turkey. “The Republic of Turkey General Directorate of Security with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Public Security Directorate Memorandum of Understanding between” period of the Director General of Police (EGM) of Mehmet Kılıçlar 5-8 May 2014 date was signed during his visit to Jordan.
