History

Hatay Turkey ‘s most important is the location of the old settlement. Made archaeological 100,000 and 40,000 years before Christ was reached between the research findings dated. Climate

The large part of the province is under the influence of the Mediterranean climate . However, there are also various differences depending on elevation and darkness. Before the annexation of Hatay, the main agricultural products of the late 19th century were cereals , olives and liquorice . While exporting grain, liquorice, wool , timber and some foodstuffs to Egypt, England, France and Italy during this period , cotton weaving, raw , iron made instruments and medicines are imported.

By 1939, the most advanced branches of the industry were soaped with silk weaving. In the 1940s, the food industry gained weight, while leather and metal goods, and stone and earth based industrial branches produced industrial potentials that work with primitive techniques. In 1953, after the harbiye defne hydroelectric power plant was put into operation, the energy problem was solved before the ginning and spinning and weaving factories were established. In 1954 , when the Yellow Fertilizer Factory was founded , the manufacturing industry developed in the 1960s; agricultural machinery and equipment, oil, diesel and air filters, brake pads, machines used in the textile industry have begun to be produced.

As a traditional small industry, leather , shoemaking and furniture has an important potential. The weighted industries are the forest products, weaving, clothing, leather industry, metal goods, machine equipment, transportation vehicles and scientific and professional measuring instruments.

Payas and Antakya Organize Sanayi , established after the İskenderun Organized Industrial Zone, constitute an important investment area for the businessmen in terms of location and the share of the industry in the province and country’s economies continues to increase with years.

A total of 18.9% of the province of Hatay is suitable for agriculture. 63% of agricultural land is farmed, 13.8% is growing vegetables, 9.4% is fruit growing, 1.8% is viticulture and 11.8% is olive cultivation.

Among the important agricultural products of the province are wheat and cotton . Citrus fruits have a very important place in the fruit group, followed by grape fruit. As well as citrus fruits, grapes , Trabzon , figs , plums are important fruit of the province. Covered farming ( greenhouse ) is also becoming widespread. Olive production is quite common , especially in the district of Altinözü.
