Turkey – Haiti Political Relations

Economic and political relations between our country and Haiti have been rather limited due to the geographical distance and the concentration of both countries on their territories for many years. However, more attention has been paid to the region as a result of our expansion into Latin America and the Caribbean region, which has gained momentum in recent years, the opening of new embassies in the region, the start of TICA development and technical cooperation projects and establishment of institutional relations with regional organizations, comprising.

After the earthquake that occurred on January 12, 2010 near Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti and more than 300 people lost their lives, US $ 1 million and US $ 1 million in cash aid were given to Haiti in our country. In addition, 3 million Euros have been collected with the contribution of our people in the framework of the aid campaign opened by the Presidency of Religious Affairs. Lastly, AFAD and TİKA provided $ 124,000 in cash and equipment assistance to Haiti to cover the damages caused by Matthew Hurricane in October 2016.

Our country was founded in April 2004 by the UN Haiti Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH), which was created to assist the Haitian Government in ensuring political stability, modernization and democratization of the National Police Force, disarming and collecting armed groups, securing security and public order, from now on, we have provided staff support. As of October 15, 2017, the UN Haiti Justice Support Mission (MINUJUSTH), located in MINUSTAH, is providing personnel support to our country.

Haiti’s former Foreign Minister Duly Brutus visited our country to attend the presidency handover ceremony from 27 August to 1 September 2014.
