Turkey – Political Relations with El Salvador

The relations between our country and El Salvador remain very limited due to the geographical distance and the concentration of both countries on their territories for many years. However, more attention has been paid to the territory of Latin America and the Caribbean, which has gained momentum in recent years, the opening of new embassies in the region, the launching of TICA development and technical cooperation projects and establishment of institutional relations with regional organizations and the establishment of institutional relations with El Salvador as well.

Our bilateral relations with El Salvador have begun to develop rapidly after our country’s Central American Integration System (SICA) became an observer member in February 2015. We are the Embassy of Guatemala to El Salvador. We have an Honorary Consulate in San Salvador. El Salvador’s Embassy in Berlin is accredited to my country. There is also an Honorary Consulate in Istanbul.

El Salvador Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez on April 20th, 2017 our country hosted the second Turkey-SICA Foreign Ministers’ Forum was held in Istanbul within the scope of a visit to our country. Minister Martinez, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as the Chairman of Turkey in Istanbul on April 21, 2017-CELAC Quartet has contributed significantly to the realization of the Fourth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
