Turkey – Dominican Republic Political Relations

The opening policy of our country to Latin America and the Caribbean region accelerated our relations with the Dominican Republic as well as with the other countries of the region and with the entry of our Embassy in Santo Domingo on October 1, 2013, there has been a remarkable development in bilateral relations. The Embassy of Tel Aviv in the Dominican Republic is accredited to my country.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ahmet Davutoğlu signed the Visa Exemption, Air Transportation and Economic Cooperation Agreements for Diplomatic and Official Passports during the official visit to the Dominican Republic in 2014.

During our visit to the Dominican Republic on 1-2 February 2017, the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism was signed. Vargas, then Dominican Foreign Minister, made his first visit to Ankara on 19 April 2017 at the level of Foreign Minister.

One of the most important areas of cooperation with the Dominican Republic is the fight against natural disasters. The United Nations in 2010 found similar suggestions for strengthening global cooperation in the fight against disasters during the General Assembly of Turkey, Dominican Republic and Qatar combining these initiatives, it was transformed into a joint venture named HOPEF travellers. In 2011, the first conference of HOPEF initiative in Qatar, Turkey and the Dominican Republic in 2012, the second third of the 18 to 20 November 2013 were made in the city of Punta Cana. Prime Minister Vice Prime Minister Bethir Atalay attended the conference in Punta Cana.
