Turkey – Ivory Coast Relations
Diplomatic relations between Ivory Coast and Turkey was established in 1964. From 1964 to 2009, Ivory Coast was accredited to our Embassy in Dakar; Our Abidjan Embassy was active on 15 November 2009. In February 2013, the first Embassy of the Republic of Turkey, the first embassy to be opened after the arrival of President Ouattara in the Ivory Coast, came into service in February 2013.
Alassane Ouattara President’s term in the stage as the stabilization FS in the selection then followed by 15 to 16 December 2014, Foreign Minister Charles Koffi working visit carried Diby’n of our country, and then 25 to 28 March 2015, President Ouattara’s to Turkey the official visit gave an important impetus to our relations. On 28-29 February 2016, President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr Minister and a large delegation, including other ministers, visited FS with an official visit. Within the scope of the visit, nine documents were signed between our country and the FS in the fields of education, security, economy, technology and development.
Turkey’s San Pedro, Ivory Coast is located in Istanbul, Izmir and Bursa honorary consulates.
Since July 2012, Turkish Airlines has been operating direct flights to Abidjan. The flights, which take place at four weekly frequency levels, are six per week in summer.
The economic basis of the economic and commercial relations between our country and Ivory Coast is constituted by the Trade Agreement and Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed in 2005.
Ivory Coast, one of our top six trading partners in sub-Saharan Africa, is our largest trading partner in French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa. Ivory Coast was selected as one of the target countries in Sub-Saharan Africa by the Ministry of Economy in 2016.
The volume of bilateral trade between our country and Ivory Coast is around 442,1 million US Dollars as of 2017, while our exports are 141,3 and our imports are 300,8 million US Dollars. Balance in foreign trade is against our country.
Our country, through Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Development (TIKA), has development assistance in various fields such as health, food, education, science and transportation. For more detailed information, please visit http://www.tika.gov.tr.
Scholarships recognized by Turkey within the scope of Turkey, during the period 2017-2018 are given scholarships to 21 students from the Ivory Coast. Since 1992, 132 scholarships have been awarded.
