Turkey – China Political Relations
The diplomatic relations between China and Turkey was established in 1971. Within the framework of the “One China” policy, our country regards the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of China. cooperation between China and Turkey, where both countries have opened up to the outside, have gained increased mobility since the 1980s as economic and political. Our relations, which were upgraded to “Strategic Cooperation” level in 2010, are rapidly developing with the contribution of mutual high-level visits in the recent period.
The official visit of the 11th President of the Republic of Turkey, Abdullah Gül, to China on 24-29 June 2009 constituted the first visit made at the level of President of our country after 14 years. On 7-9 October 2010, Prime Minister of the PRC Wen Jiabao visited our country. PRC President Xi Jinping visited our country on 20-22 February 2012 at the invitation of the 11th President Mr. Abdullah Gul during the period of vice president. Honourable President, Prime Minister, the official visit to China on April 8-11, 2012, 27 years after visiting our country, the first visit to China was at the level of Prime Minister.
Mr. President and the President of the PRC held four bilateral meetings in the period of 2015-2017. Mr. President Our President visited China on 29-30 July 2015. PRC President Xi Jinping welcomed the G20 Antalya Summit on 14-16 November 2015 and held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Turkey. Mr. President also attended the G20 Summit held in Hangzhou on September 4-5, 2016, and in this way, they held a bilateral meeting with the PRC President. Finally, Mr. President of the Republic of Turkey visited China on 13-15 May 2017, attended the Generation and Road Summit and met with the PRC President.
In addition to bilateral relations with China, consultation mechanisms have been established at various levels to ensure that issues that stand out on the international agenda are addressed. The Prime Minister’s Deputy Prime Ministers and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, established in 2015, constituted the important steps taken in this context. The first meetings of these mechanisms were organized in Ankara in 2016. In this context, PRC Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yang visited our country on 3-5 November 2016. PRC Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited the Republic of Myanmar on November 13-14, 2016 with his first meeting of the Mechanisms of Foreign Ministers Mechanism visited and visited the PRC in the context of his second meeting in Beijing on 3 August 2017.
Turkey and China, the UN close cooperation, the G20, CICA, AIIB, remains as APSCO also in multilateral fora. In the framework of the G20 Presidency, which China took over from our country, many meetings were organized in 2016 at the level of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister, and also the country of our country as a member of the G20 Troika. As the G20 is hosted by China, which took over the Presidency of CICA from our country, it participated in the 5th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of CICA held in Beijing on April 27-28, 2016 by Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
