Turkey-Chad Relations

Political relations between our country and Chad are based on the 16th century. In our republic history, our political relations with the Modern Chad were re-established in 1969, when our embassy in Nigeria was accredited to Chad, and our embassy in Tripoli became accredited to Chad. On March 1, 2013, our Encemine Embassy was in operation. Chad’s Embassy in Ankara opened on December 10, 2014. Following these developments, there has been a significant increase in bilateral relations.

Chad President Idriss Déby Itno made an official visit to my country on April 27-30, 2000, at the invitation of former President Suleyman Demirel. Chad Prime Minister Kalzeubé Payimi Deubet made an official visit to my country on December 15-18, 2014, in which various agreements were signed with the visit.

Turkey-Chad Joint Economic Commission (JEC) First Semester Meeting was held in Ankara on 28 January 2015. Held in November 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey-Africa Business Forum on the occasion of the Economy and Mr. A bilateral meeting was held between the President of the Republic and Chad President.

On December 26, 2017, President of Republic of Turkey visited Chad with a large delegation and 5 agreements and 2 protocols were signed with this visit. During the visit, also with the participation of about 100 businessmen accompanying our President-Turkey Business Forum was held in Chad Encemine. Mr. President’s visit has given important momentum to the relations between the two countries.

Our total trade volume with Chad is US $ 45 million as of the end of 2017. Our export to this country is 18 million, and our import from this country is 27 million USD.

On 12 December 2013 THY started direct flights to Istanbul-Encemine. On January 1, 2015, the Encemine Office of TİKA was opened. Turkey is the Ministry of Education Foundation Country Director in Chad began operations on May 13, 2017 is managing a school complex.

Our country, through the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), is in development assistance to Chad in various fields such as health, food, education, science and transportation.

State scholarships are allocated to chad students every year at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Turkey covered by scholarships, 2017-2018 has been allocated for the academic year scholarships to 30 students Cadle. Since 1992, 193 scholarships have been awarded.
