Turkey – Cameroon Relations
Cameroon President Paul Biya’s visit to Turkey between March 25 to 28, 2013, a Cameroon have visited the President of our country for the first time and thus has given a special impetus to our bilateral relations depth. With the influence of the visit, which has been provided by the two countries in relation to each other, the interest towards my country has increased in quality in Cameroon public opinion. In recent years, a number of cooperation agreements have been signed between the two countries, and efforts have been made to complete the legal infrastructure of the partnership between the two countries. Within our relations with Cameroon, contacts and visits between the two countries are increasing. It is foreseen that Minister Bekir Bozdag, who had previously visited Kamerun between 7-9 November 2013, will revisit the Mixed Economic Commission meeting in 2018.
Lastly by Cameroon, Minister of Defence Joseph Beti Assomo visited our country on 28-21 January 2018 and Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Zacharie Perevet on 20-22 February 2018.
As President Paul Biya’s country aims to become an emerging economy in 2035, significant infrastructure and transformation projects and initiatives have been initiated in Cameroon, and the interest and contribution of our country’s firms has increased steadily.
Our country, through the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), provides development assistance to Cameroon in various fields such as health, food, education, science and transportation.
Approximately 100 million US Dollars are exported to Cameroon in 2017 and 50 million US Dollars are exported to Cameroon in 2017. Bilateral trade volume is 150 million USD per year. This amount does not include the shuttle trade, which is carried out THY flights every day of the week. (Routine delays and high customs duties at Douala Port make luggage trade for Cameroon attractive.)
Cameroon has a sister city relationship between Maroua city and Kayseri province, between Douala city and Bursa province and between Mfou district of Yaounde city and Pursaklar district of Ankara.
THY has daily flights to Yaounde and Douala every day of the week. Turkey covered the period 2017-2018 Scholarship Cameroon from scholarships were given to 35 students. Since 1992, 215 scholarships have been awarded.
