Turkey – Botswana Political Relations
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1981. Gaboron Embassy was opened on October 15, 2014. Until 2009, mutual high level visits to Botswana were not made, only our embassies to Botswana went to this country to present their letters of confidence.
18-21 August 2008 between the representative of Botswana attended the Turkey-Africa Cooperation Summit held in Istanbul, the country’s charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Addis Ababa and was accepted by the President of the Republic when engaged.Following the Istanbul Summit, a delegation headed by Skelemani, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Botswana, visited Turkey in January 2009 to determine the areas where cooperation between the two countries could be improved.
The Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed during Botswana’s former Foreign and International Cooperation Minister Skelemani’s visit to my country in May 2010.
The third and last visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Skelemani in September 2012 was the province of the Mixed Economic Commission (KEK) meeting between the two countries.
Parliamentary Friendship Group with Botswana in Parliament was established on 06 March 2016 under the chairmanship of Şanlıurfa deputy Kemalettin Yılmaztekin. It is not available on the Botswana side. Trade volume between the two countries amounted to about USD 13 million (imports from Botswana: about USD 10 million, export to Botswana: about USD 3 million) in 2016.
