Turkey – Political Relations with Colombia
Colombia is the fourth largest in terms of surface area in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region and the third largest country in terms of population. Thanks to its well-established state tradition and its institutionalized administrative system, it has succeeded in maintaining political and economic order in a certain stability.
There is no political problem between our country and Colombia. There is a similar approach between the two countries in international conventions, comprehensive cohesion without roughening, and a common will to further this relationship. The opening of Colombia’s Embassy in Ankara in 2011, following the passing of our Bogota Embassy in March 2010, accelerated the link between the two countries.
Colombia is a country that carries significant economic and trade potential for our country with its rising economy. In the ranking of the countries where we export the most in the LAK region in 2016, we ranked fourth, followed by Brazil and Mexico in terms of our second and bilateral trade volume in the order of the countries we imported the most. In the first nine months of 2017, our bilateral trade volume has risen to second place in the region.
The visit of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos to our country in 2011 was the first visit made between the two countries at the level of president. Mr. President visited Colombia on 9-10 February 2015.
